The VP1 Automation Engineer Lead will design, develop and maintain automation solutions supporting UOB’s technology and banking platforms. Responsibilities typically include leading automation engineering initiatives, building reliable test or process-automation frameworks, integrating tools into CI/CD pipelines, improving operational efficiency, and working with developers, infrastructure teams and business stakeholders. Candidates are expected to have strong experience in software engineering, automation frameworks, scripting languages such as Java, Python or Shell, DevOps practices, API and system integration, and modern testing or orchestration tools. The role also requires leadership, problem-solving ability, effective communication and experience delivering secure, scalable solutions in a financial-services environment. Knowledge of banking systems, cloud platforms and Agile delivery would be advantageous.
United Overseas Bank (UOB) is a major Singapore-headquartered banking group with operations across Southeast Asia and international financial centres. Established in 1935, the bank provides personal and commercial banking, wealth management, investment banking, treasury and related financial services to individuals, businesses and institutions. UOB has a strong regional presence in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam, supported by digital platforms and extensive branch and corporate networks. Technology is central to its strategy, with ongoing investment in digital banking, cybersecurity, automation, data, cloud infrastructure and modern engineering practices. The bank employs professionals across finance, risk, operations, technology and customer-facing functions. Its working environment is generally structured and regulated, reflecting the requirements of a large financial institution, while technology teams are increasingly focused on agile delivery, innovation and improving customer and employee experiences.
Singapore offers strong opportunities for automation engineers, software developers, cybersecurity specialists, data professionals and financial-technology experts, particularly in banking, technology, logistics and multinational companies. The culture is multicultural, orderly and fast-paced, with English widely used in business. Employees can enjoy excellent public transport, safe neighbourhoods, efficient services, diverse food and convenient access to parks, beaches and regional travel. Housing is costly, especially near the central business district, while rents are generally lower in suburban areas. Foreign professionals usually need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass or S Pass; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications, experience and current government requirements. Employers normally handle the application process. Relocating workers should budget for rent, deposits, healthcare, transport and daily expenses, and should verify tax and employment rules before moving. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain, so suitable clothing and indoor cooling are important.
