Working in Fiji

Fiji offers employment opportunities mainly in tourism and hospitality, including hotels, resorts, restaurants, dive operations, transport, events, and retail. Viti Levu, especially Nadi, Denarau, Lautoka, Suva, and Momi Bay, has the largest job market. Fijian culture values warmth, respect, community, family, and the traditional concept of hospitality known as veivakaturagataki. Life is generally relaxed, with access to beaches, markets, water activities, and outdoor recreation, although imported goods and accommodation can be expensive. Foreign nationals normally need an approved employment permit before starting work; the employer usually supports the application, and requirements can include a contract, passport, qualifications, medical checks, and police clearance. Before relocating, confirm salary, accommodation, transport, meals, insurance, permit responsibilities, and contract terms. Nadi is convenient for international travel, while Suva offers a larger urban environment and government services.
