Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, well-connected island city with opportunities in technology, finance, consulting, logistics, healthcare, manufacturing and regional headquarters. English is widely used at work, while Japanese-speaking professionals are valued in customer support, shared services, sales and client-facing roles. The culture is multicultural, orderly and generally punctual, with efficient public transport, reliable infrastructure and excellent food. Housing and daily expenses can be high, especially in central areas, so many newcomers compare room rentals and neighborhoods near MRT stations. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and government criteria. Employers usually guide successful hires through the application process. New arrivals should arrange suitable accommodation, health insurance, banking access and a local mobile plan. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain.
