Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island city with opportunities in aviation, logistics, technology, finance, engineering, hospitality, healthcare and manufacturing. Its multicultural society blends Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences, reflected in its festivals, languages and food. Life is convenient and generally safe, with excellent public transport, modern healthcare and extensive shopping and dining options. Housing is the main expense, especially near the city centre, although shared rooms and locations near MRT stations can reduce costs. Singapore is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain. Foreign interns and employees must obtain the appropriate pass before starting work; the employer normally supports the application. Eligibility depends on the role, salary, qualifications and nationality, with options including an internship or training pass and Employment Pass or S Pass for eligible professionals. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, insurance, banking and transport access in advance.
