Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, safe, and highly connected island with opportunities in education, research, technology, healthcare, finance, engineering, and international business. English is widely used at work, while Malay, Mandarin, and Tamil are also official languages. The culture combines Chinese, Malay, Indian, and international influences, reflected in its food, festivals, and neighbourhoods. Public transport is efficient, although housing and dining near central areas can be expensive. Employees commonly live in apartments or Housing and Development Board flats, with rents varying considerably by location and room type. Foreign professionals generally need an employer-sponsored work pass; research appointments may qualify for an Employment Pass or another appropriate pass, subject to current salary and eligibility rules. Before relocating, arrange a written contract, confirm pass sponsorship, budget for rent and healthcare, and check requirements for bringing family members. NTU's western campus is well served by buses and nearby MRT connections.
