Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island city with strong opportunities in technology, research, finance, healthcare, education, engineering, and advanced manufacturing. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil are also official languages. The culture combines Chinese, Malay, Indian, and international influences, with excellent food, public transport, safety, and efficient public services. Housing can be expensive, particularly in central areas, so many newcomers consider locations near MRT lines outside the city centre. The tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain. Foreign professionals generally need an Employment Pass or another appropriate work pass, normally sponsored by an employer; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications, and current government criteria. Relocating employees should arrange housing, healthcare coverage, banking, tax registration, and transportation before arrival. Singapore’s airport and regional connections also make travel around Southeast Asia convenient.
