Working in Ireland

Ireland offers strong opportunities in technology, consulting, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, financial services, manufacturing, logistics, and renewable energy, especially around Dublin, Cork, Galway, and Limerick. The culture is friendly, sociable, and community-oriented, with English widely used in professional life. Lifestyle benefits include scenic coastlines, historic towns, music, sport, and relatively easy access to Europe. Dublin has the broadest job market but also high rents and housing competition; regional cities can offer a lower-cost alternative. EU, EEA, Swiss, and UK citizens generally do not need an employment visa. Non-EEA nationals usually need an employment permit and immigration registration. Eligibility depends on occupation, salary, qualifications, and employer sponsorship; some specialist roles may qualify for a Critical Skills Employment Permit, while others require a General Employment Permit. Arrange housing, tax registration, banking, healthcare, and transport before or soon after arrival.
