The Transport Shift Manager is responsible for leading transport operations during an assigned shift, ensuring vehicles, drivers and deliveries run safely, efficiently and on schedule. Requirements typically include experience in transport, logistics or fleet operations; strong people-management skills; knowledge of UK driving, transport and health-and-safety regulations; and competence with operational systems and performance reporting. A relevant transport qualification, such as CPC knowledge, is advantageous. DHL expects a hands-on, organised leader who can manage changing priorities, control costs, investigate service issues and maintain excellent customer service. The successful candidate should be comfortable working shifts, including early mornings, evenings or weekends, and should motivate teams while meeting safety, productivity and delivery targets.
DHL is a global logistics and supply-chain company operating across freight forwarding, express delivery, contract logistics, warehousing and e-commerce fulfilment. It serves businesses and consumers in more than 220 countries and territories, connecting international supply chains through road, air, ocean and specialist transport services. In the United Kingdom, DHL employs large operational, transport, warehouse, technology and support teams across distribution centres, airports and customer sites. The company places strong emphasis on safety, service quality, sustainability, compliance and employee development. Its businesses include DHL Express, DHL Supply Chain, DHL Global Forwarding and DHL eCommerce. Employees may benefit from structured training, career progression, pension arrangements, healthcare or wellbeing support, and staff discounts, although packages vary by business unit and role.
The United Kingdom offers substantial opportunities in transport, logistics, warehousing, technology, healthcare, engineering, finance and professional services, particularly around London, the Midlands, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds and major ports and airports. British workplace culture generally values punctuality, clear communication, reliability and respect for personal boundaries. Lifestyle options range from busy urban centres to quieter coastal and rural communities, with good public transport but relatively high housing costs in London and the South East. Visa requirements depend on nationality: many overseas workers need employer sponsorship under an eligible route, while those with UK or Irish citizenship generally do not. Check current rules with UK Visas and Immigration. Relocating involves arranging a National Insurance number, bank account, accommodation and right-to-work evidence. Transport roles may also require appropriate UK licences or professional qualifications.
