This role manages system maintenance, bug reports, incident response, and support tickets for Rakuten’s corporate business systems. Responsibilities may include coordinating with development and infrastructure teams, tracking issues through resolution, monitoring service quality, preparing reports, and improving operational processes. Candidates should have experience in system operations, help desk or technical support, quality management, or issue and ticket administration. Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and stakeholder coordination skills are expected. Japanese proficiency is likely important for working with internal teams in Japan, while English may be required in Rakuten’s international environment. Familiarity with ticketing tools, IT service management, testing, and software development processes would be advantageous.
Rakuten Group, Inc. is a major Japanese technology and internet services company headquartered in Tokyo. Founded in 1997, it operates a broad ecosystem covering e-commerce, fintech, mobile communications, digital content, travel, advertising, and professional sports. Rakuten’s services are used by consumers and businesses in Japan and many international markets. The company promotes an integrated membership and loyalty platform, allowing customers to use Rakuten ID and Rakuten Points across multiple services. Its workforce is multicultural, and English is commonly used in many corporate and technology functions, although Japanese remains important for domestic operations. Rakuten offers employees opportunities to work on large-scale platforms, business transformation, and technology-driven services in a fast-moving corporate environment.
Japan offers strong opportunities in software engineering, IT operations, cybersecurity, data, finance, customer support, manufacturing, healthcare, and tourism. Tokyo has the largest international job market, while Osaka, Fukuoka, Nagoya, and Sapporo can offer lower living costs and growing technology sectors. Japanese workplaces value punctuality, preparation, teamwork, and respectful communication; international companies may use more English. Daily life is generally safe, efficient, and convenient, with excellent public transport, reliable services, and varied food and cultural experiences. Rent and commuting costs can be high in central Tokyo. Foreign employees usually need an appropriate work visa, commonly an Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services visa, sponsored by the employer. Relocation packages may assist with housing, registration, banking, and residence procedures. Learning practical Japanese will significantly improve workplace and everyday integration.
