About the employer

Rakuten is a major Japanese technology and internet-services group founded in 1997. Its businesses span e-commerce, fintech, mobile communications, digital content, travel, advertising, and professional services. Rakuten Mobile operates a telecommunications network and offers mobile services in Japan, while the wider Rakuten ecosystem connects millions of customers with shopping, payments, banking, travel, and membership benefits. The company is known for its strong entrepreneurial culture, data-driven operations, international workforce, and emphasis on creating integrated digital services. Employees often work across business units and with domestic and overseas partners. The company’s headquarters are in Tokyo, with offices and operations throughout Japan and internationally. This position sits within a corporate business organization supporting partner sales and promotion for Rakuten’s mobile business.

Working in Japan

Japan offers opportunities in technology, telecommunications, software, finance, manufacturing, tourism, education, and international business, especially in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka. Workplaces value punctuality, preparation, teamwork, and respectful communication, although many companies are becoming more flexible and internationally minded. Daily life is safe, efficient, and convenient, with excellent public transport, reliable services, seasonal food, and rich cultural traditions. Tokyo has the widest job market but higher housing costs; regional cities offer a calmer lifestyle and lower expenses. Most foreign employees need an appropriate work visa, commonly the Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services visa, sponsored by an employer. Highly skilled professionals may qualify for a points-based visa or permanent residence more quickly. Before relocating, arrange housing, health insurance, a residence card, a bank account, and basic Japanese-language support. Learning Japanese greatly improves workplace integration and everyday life.
