Working in Australia

Australia offers hospitality opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, cafés, casinos and event venues, particularly in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Cairns and regional tourist areas. Its culture is generally informal, multicultural and outdoor-oriented, with strong expectations around punctuality, workplace safety, customer service and responsible alcohol service. Lifestyle costs can be high in major cities, especially rent, but wages are comparatively strong and public transport is widely available. Australia is a large island country with beaches, national parks, reefs and varied climates, although distances between destinations are considerable. Foreign applicants need valid work rights, such as a Working Holiday visa, employer-sponsored visa or another eligible temporary visa. Check age, nationality, occupation and sponsorship rules before applying. Plan for accommodation, tax file registration, banking, health insurance and transport, and allow savings for initial rent, bond and living expenses.
