Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers varied hospitality opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak, including hotel management, food and beverage, tourism, events, wellness and marine activities. Kuala Lumpur is not an island but is the country’s main business hub, with modern transport, international schools, shopping, diverse restaurants and a lively expatriate community. Penang combines heritage culture and strong dining with an urban lifestyle, while Langkawi offers a slower resort environment, beaches and outdoor activities. Malaysia is culturally diverse, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences, and English is widely used in tourism and business. Foreign professionals normally require employer-sponsored approval and an Employment Pass, arranged before starting work; eligibility depends on qualifications, salary and role. Relocating employees should budget for housing, healthcare, schooling and transport, and confirm tax, insurance and dependent-pass arrangements with the employer.
