Hotels, restaurants, cafés and event venues regularly recruit chefs, pastry cooks and kitchen assistants, although competition can be strong and employers usually expect relevant training or experience. Australian workplace culture is generally professional, direct and multicultural, with emphasis on punctuality, teamwork and workplace safety. Melbourne offers excellent food, arts and sporting scenes, reliable public transport and a varied lifestyle, but housing costs can be high. Working holiday visas may suit eligible young travellers, while skilled or employer-sponsored visas may be available for qualified workers subject to immigration rules.
