The United Arab Emirates is not an island, but it offers strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, aviation, retail, finance, technology and construction. Dubai and Abu Dhabi are the main employment centres, with many international hotels and multinational companies. The culture blends Emirati traditions with a highly international population; respectful dress and behaviour are expected, especially during Ramadan. Lifestyle options include beaches, shopping, restaurants, desert activities and a busy social scene, although accommodation and transport can be expensive. Most overseas employees need an employer-sponsored residence and work visa. Employers commonly arrange medical checks, Emirates ID processing and residency formalities, while the employee must provide passport and qualification documents. Before relocating, confirm salary, accommodation or allowance, insurance, transport, annual leave, flights and probation terms. Public transport is convenient in major cities, and English is widely used at work.
