The Executive Chef leads all culinary operations, including menu development, food quality, kitchen staffing, cost control, hygiene, and guest satisfaction. Formal culinary training, excellent leadership and communication skills, HACCP or food-safety knowledge, and experience managing budgets and large multicultural teams are typically expected. Shangri-La will look for a creative, commercially aware professional who can maintain luxury standards, coach chefs, control waste, and work closely with food and beverage, events, purchasing, and senior management teams.

About the employer

Shangri-La is a luxury hospitality group founded in Asia and recognized for its hotels, resorts, and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America, and other international markets. The brand is known for warm Asian hospitality, high service standards, distinctive dining, and carefully developed guest experiences. Its properties range from urban business hotels to large beachfront resorts, creating opportunities across rooms, food and beverage, events, wellness, and hotel leadership. Employees generally work in multicultural teams and are expected to demonstrate professionalism, genuine care, operational discipline, and attention to detail. In Indonesia, Shangri-La has operated prominent city and resort properties, offering a setting where local culture is combined with international luxury-hotel practices. Benefits and employment terms vary by property, seniority, and local regulations.

Working in Indonesia

Indonesia is an archipelago rather than a single island destination, with major hospitality opportunities in Java, Bali, Lombok, Batam, and other resort areas. Jakarta and Surabaya offer stronger corporate and city-hotel careers, while Bali and Lombok are popular for luxury resorts, tourism, and culinary positions. Life can be rewarding, with warm weather, affordable local food, beaches, welcoming communities, and a relaxed social culture, although traffic, humidity, seasonal tourism, and language differences may require adjustment. Indonesian food, religious traditions, and local customs should be approached respectfully. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship, a work permit, and the appropriate limited-stay work visa; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Employers may assist with immigration, accommodation, flights, insurance, and relocation, but these terms should be confirmed before accepting an offer. Research the exact island, housing costs, healthcare, transport, and contract conditions carefully.
