The Security Officer is responsible for protecting guests, colleagues, hotel property and assets while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment. Typical duties include patrolling the premises, monitoring surveillance systems, controlling access, responding to incidents, preparing reports and assisting with emergencies. Candidates should generally have previous security or hotel experience, good physical fitness, strong observation skills and a professional, service-minded attitude. A valid Hong Kong security personnel permit is normally required, along with the ability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends and public holidays. Cantonese and English communication skills are highly desirable; additional languages are an advantage. Candidates are expected to remain calm under pressure, follow procedures, respect confidentiality and provide courteous assistance to guests.
Shangri-La Group is a major luxury hospitality company headquartered in Hong Kong, operating hotels, resorts and related businesses across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and other international markets. Its portfolio includes the Shangri-La, Kerry, JEN and Traders brands. The group is known for Asian-inspired hospitality, attentive service and high standards in accommodation, dining, events and guest experiences. Shangri-La employs colleagues in hotel operations, food and beverage, engineering, security, finance, sales and corporate functions. In Hong Kong, its properties serve business travellers, leisure guests, local residents and international events. The company generally places strong emphasis on guest care, operational professionalism, teamwork, training and compliance with safety and security standards. Employment conditions, benefits and development opportunities vary by property and position.
Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, tourism, restaurants, retail, finance, technology, logistics and professional services. The culture is international but rooted in Cantonese traditions, with Cantonese widely used alongside English and Mandarin. Life is fast-paced, highly connected and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, hiking and lively neighbourhoods. Housing is expensive, especially on Hong Kong Island and in central areas, so many residents live in Kowloon or the New Territories. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate employment visa before starting work; the employer commonly sponsors the application and must demonstrate a genuine position and suitable employment terms. A valid passport, qualifications and supporting documents are required, and dependants may qualify for separate arrangements. New arrivals should budget for rent, deposits, healthcare, transport and daily expenses, and confirm shift patterns and accommodation support with the employer.
