About the employer

Shangri-La is a Hong Kong-founded luxury hospitality group operating hotels, resorts, and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America, and other international destinations. The group is known for warm Asian hospitality, high service standards, distinctive restaurants, and premium guest experiences. Its Hong Kong properties serve business and leisure travelers and offer extensive dining, events, wellness, and accommodation facilities. Employees generally work in structured hotel teams with training, service procedures, and opportunities to develop within the wider group. For an in-room dining role, Shangri-La places strong emphasis on courtesy, accuracy, responsiveness, presentation, and understanding individual guest preferences. Benefits may include staff meals, uniforms, medical coverage, paid leave, service charge, and internal career opportunities, although the exact package depends on the property and employment contract.

Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, finance, technology, and professional services. Hospitality jobs are concentrated in Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, Lantau, and the New Territories, with international hotels regularly recruiting experienced service staff. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with global influences; people value efficiency, politeness, reliability, and punctuality. Life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, hiking trails, beaches, and vibrant nightlife. Accommodation can be expensive, especially near Central, so many workers share flats or live in Kowloon or the New Territories. Most foreign employees require an employment visa sponsored by their employer, usually under the General Employment Policy, and should not begin work before approval. Employers may request qualifications, experience, health documents, and a valid passport. New arrivals should budget for deposits, transport, insurance, and initial living costs, while learning basic Cantonese can improve daily life and guest interactions.
