Working in Indonesia

Indonesia is an archipelago with varied opportunities across Java, Bali, Sumatra, Sulawesi and the eastern islands. Hospitality jobs are concentrated in Jakarta and other major cities, while Bali and resort destinations offer strong demand in hotels, residences, restaurants, wellness and tourism. The culture is diverse and community-oriented; respectful dress, polite communication and sensitivity to religious customs are important. Lifestyle ranges from busy urban living and modern shopping to beach, nature and island communities. Relocation costs and traffic can be significant, particularly in Jakarta and Bali. Foreign nationals generally need employer sponsorship and an appropriate work permit and limited-stay visa; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Employers commonly assist with immigration, accommodation guidance, medical checks and onboarding, but candidates should confirm benefits, housing, tax and visa arrangements before accepting an offer.
