Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, event venues, restaurants, tourism, retail and corporate services. Langkawi is known for beach resorts and relaxed island living, while Penang combines heritage culture, excellent food and a lively urban environment. Sabah and Sarawak provide resort, nature and adventure-tourism roles, with Kota Kinabalu and Kuching serving as useful bases. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in hospitality, alongside Bahasa Malaysia and other languages. Lifestyle costs are generally moderate, though popular resort islands can be more expensive and seasonal. Foreign employees normally need an employment pass or other work authorisation arranged and sponsored by the employer before starting work. Relocation usually involves employer assistance, medical checks and document processing. Candidates should confirm accommodation, transport, benefits, visa sponsorship and probation terms directly with Shangri-La.
