The Senior Corporate Counsel will provide legal advice with a primary focus on commercial disputes, claims, litigation, investigations and risk management across Shangri-La’s hotel and corporate operations. Requirements typically include a Hong Kong practising certificate or equivalent qualification, substantial post-qualification experience in disputes and commercial law, strong drafting and negotiation skills, and experience in an international law firm or in-house legal team. The successful candidate is expected to manage external counsel, assess legal and business risks, advise senior stakeholders clearly, protect company interests and handle sensitive matters with sound judgment, discretion and commercial awareness. Excellent English communication skills are essential; knowledge of Chinese and regional legal systems would be advantageous.
Shangri-La Group is a leading luxury hospitality company headquartered in Hong Kong. Founded in 1971, it operates hotels, resorts and related businesses under the Shangri-La, Kerry, JEN and Traders brands across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international markets. The group is known for high service standards, distinctive properties, extensive food and beverage operations, and a strong focus on Asian hospitality. Its corporate functions support a large, geographically diverse portfolio involving hotel management, property development, commercial agreements, employment matters, technology, compliance and risk. Working for Shangri-La typically involves collaboration across countries, business units and professional disciplines. The company offers exposure to complex international operations and a multicultural working environment, making this role suitable for an experienced lawyer who can combine technical legal expertise with practical, business-oriented advice.
Hong Kong is a dynamic international business centre with strong opportunities in finance, hospitality, technology, professional services and law. Its culture blends Cantonese traditions with global influences, and English is widely used in business, while Cantonese and Mandarin are valuable locally. Life is fast-paced, highly connected and generally safe, with excellent public transport, diverse restaurants, shopping, hiking trails and nearby beaches. Housing is expensive, particularly on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon, so many professionals compare locations and commuting times carefully. Overseas hires generally need an employment visa sponsored by the employer and must demonstrate a confirmed role, suitable qualifications and relevant experience. Dependants may usually accompany approved visa holders. Relocation packages can vary and may include medical insurance, flights, housing support or a bonus. New arrivals should budget for rent, deposits, utilities and international schooling where relevant.
