Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers varied hospitality opportunities on islands and coastal destinations including Langkawi, Penang, Pangkor, Redang, Perhentian, Tioman and parts of Sabah. Jobs are available in hotels, resorts, restaurants, diving centres, housekeeping, engineering, wellness and guest services, with larger luxury properties often providing staff accommodation or meals. Local culture is multicultural, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous traditions, and English is widely used in tourism. Island life is relaxed and scenic, but transport, healthcare and shopping can be more limited than on the mainland. Costs vary by destination and season. Foreign workers normally need an employer-sponsored employment pass or relevant work permit; they should not work on a tourist visa. Employers usually guide the application, medical checks and relocation process. Candidates should confirm accommodation, transport, insurance, contract terms and visa sponsorship before accepting an offer.
