Shangri-La is a major luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong, operating hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and other international markets. The brand is known for warm Asian hospitality, high service standards and full-service properties offering accommodation, restaurants, conferences, weddings, wellness facilities and leisure experiences. In Malaysia, Shangri-La has properties in destinations including Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kota Kinabalu and other important business or resort locations. The company serves corporate travellers, leisure guests, tour groups and large events, creating opportunities across sales, food and beverage, rooms, engineering and guest services. Employees can generally expect a structured hotel environment, international operating standards, training opportunities and collaboration with colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds. Specific benefits, accommodation arrangements and service-charge payments depend on the property and employment contract.
Malaysia offers varied island and coastal lifestyles, from Langkawi and Penang in the west to the Perhentian Islands, Redang, Tioman and islands around Sabah and Sarawak. Hospitality creates regular opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, events, diving, tourism sales and guest services, although vacancies are more seasonal in smaller island destinations. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences; English is widely used in tourism, while Bahasa Malaysia is useful for daily life. Costs are generally moderate, though island accommodation and imported goods can be expensive. Kuala Lumpur and Penang provide stronger year-round career options, while resort locations offer a slower outdoor lifestyle. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship and an approved Employment Pass before starting work. Candidates should confirm salary, service charge, housing, transport, medical cover, tax obligations and contract terms before relocating.
