Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers varied relocation choices rather than one single island lifestyle. Kuala Lumpur provides the widest range of technology and hospitality jobs, while Penang combines strong tourism, a growing technology sector, heritage culture and a relaxed coastal lifestyle. Langkawi and Sabah offer resort-based opportunities, including IT, engineering, guest services and marine tourism, though housing and transport can be more limited. Malaysian culture is diverse, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences, and English is commonly used in hotels and business settings. Living costs are generally moderate, with Kuala Lumpur and popular resort islands being more expensive. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the company must complete the relevant immigration process before work begins. Candidates should confirm salary, accommodation, tax, insurance and relocation support in writing before accepting an offer.
