Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers opportunities in luxury hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, events and corporate learning, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and other resort destinations. Island life in Langkawi or Penang is relaxed and multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and international influences, excellent food and outdoor activities such as beaches, diving and hiking. Costs are generally lower than in Singapore, though imported goods and accommodation in popular resort areas can be expensive. Malaysia is warm and humid year-round, with monsoon conditions varying by coast. Foreign employees normally need an Employment Pass arranged and sponsored by the employer before starting work; qualifications, experience and passport validity are checked during approval. Candidates should confirm housing, medical insurance, tax treatment, transport and return-flight benefits. Learning basic Malay is useful, while English is widely used in hospitality workplaces.
