About the employer

Shangri-La is a leading luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong, operating hotels, resorts, and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America, and other international markets. Its properties are known for personalised service, comfortable accommodation, distinctive dining, wellness facilities, and carefully managed events. In Malaysia, Shangri-La operates several established hotels and resorts, serving business travellers, leisure guests, wedding parties, and corporate clients. The company places strong emphasis on genuine hospitality, professional development, teamwork, and creating memorable guest experiences. An Events Sales Coordinator can expect to work closely with sales, banqueting, culinary, front office, and operations teams while supporting both local and international clients. The role offers useful exposure to hotel commercial operations and may provide opportunities to progress into event sales, conference services, or broader hotel management positions.

Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, events, tourism, retail, and corporate services, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah, and Sarawak. Langkawi is ideal for resort work and offers a relaxed island lifestyle, beaches, outdoor activities, and a strong tourism economy. Penang combines heritage culture, excellent food, and urban convenience, while Sabah and Sarawak provide nature-focused careers and multicultural communities. Malaysian workplace culture is generally respectful, relationship-oriented, and team-focused; English is widely used in hospitality, with Malay and Mandarin often helpful. Living costs vary, with Kuala Lumpur and popular resort islands typically more expensive than smaller towns. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the company must meet immigration requirements before work begins. Applicants should confirm visa eligibility, accommodation, transport, healthcare, and relocation support directly with Shangri-La before accepting an offer.
