Working in Indonesia

Indonesia offers varied hospitality opportunities, particularly in Bali, Jakarta, Batam, Lombok and other resort destinations. Bali is the most popular choice for international workers, with a relaxed lifestyle, beaches, outdoor activities, restaurants and a large expatriate community. Local culture values politeness, community, religious traditions and respectful dress, especially around temples and ceremonies. Living costs vary considerably: tourist areas such as Seminyak and Canggu are more expensive, while inland or less-developed areas are generally cheaper. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and the appropriate work visa; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Employers may assist with immigration, accommodation, transport, meals and insurance, but this should be confirmed in writing. Before relocating, check contract terms, tax obligations, healthcare access, housing arrangements and whether dependants can accompany you. Learning basic Indonesian is helpful for daily life and workplace communication.
