Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a compact international city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with numerous outlying islands. It offers strong opportunities in hospitality, finance, technology, retail, aviation, education and professional services. The culture blends Chinese traditions with international influences; Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in business. Life is fast-paced, highly connected and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse dining, shopping, nightlife, hiking and beaches. Accommodation can be expensive, particularly in central districts, so many professionals live in Kowloon or the New Territories. Overseas employees generally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer, usually under the General Employment Policy, and should secure approval before starting work. Applicants may need proof of qualifications, relevant experience, a valid passport and a confirmed job offer. Research housing, taxation, healthcare and school arrangements before relocating.
