Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, retail, finance, technology, logistics, and professional services. Hotel jobs are concentrated on Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories, with international employers often valuing English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and customer-service experience. The culture blends Chinese traditions with international influences; politeness, punctuality, efficiency, and respect for hierarchy are important at work. Lifestyle is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, dense urban neighbourhoods, beaches, hiking trails, shopping, and diverse food. Rent is high, so many newcomers share accommodation or live farther from the city centre. Non-residents generally need an employer-sponsored employment visa, usually under the General Employment Policy, before starting work. Applicants must meet qualification and experience requirements and obtain a Hong Kong Identity Card after approval. Dependants may be eligible to accompany approved visa holders.
