Malaysia offers varied hospitality opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, Malacca and coastal resort areas. Langkawi is the main island destination, known for beaches, mangroves, island tours and a relaxed resort lifestyle; Penang combines heritage, food culture and busy urban living. Hospitality employees can find work in hotels, restaurants, resorts, spas, events and tourism services. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences, and English is widely used in tourism. Living costs vary, with island areas often more seasonal and expensive than smaller mainland towns. Foreign workers normally require an employer-sponsored employment pass or relevant work permit before starting employment; requirements depend on nationality, role and sector.
