The Chef de Partie supports the Banquet Kitchen by preparing, cooking and presenting food to Shangri-La standards for conferences, weddings and other events. Requirements typically include professional culinary training, relevant hotel or restaurant kitchen experience, good knowledge of food preparation, hygiene and HACCP procedures, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure. The successful candidate is expected to maintain consistent quality, follow recipes and portion standards, control waste, keep the workstation clean, and work cooperatively with the Sous Chef and wider kitchen team. Flexibility is essential, as the role involves shifts, weekends, public holidays and high-volume banquet service.
Shangri-La is a premium international hospitality group founded in Hong Kong and known for luxury hotels, resorts and thoughtful Asian-inspired service. The group operates properties across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other destinations, serving business and leisure travellers through accommodation, restaurants, banqueting, wellness and event facilities. Shangri-La Hotel, Hong Kong is a landmark luxury property in Admiralty, recognised for its city and harbour views, extensive dining outlets and sophisticated banquet operations. Employees generally work in structured, multicultural teams with formal service standards and opportunities to develop through on-the-job training. Culinary employees can gain experience in large-scale events, international cuisine, food safety, menu execution and high-end hotel operations. Benefits vary by contract and may include service charge, meals, uniform, medical coverage, staff rates and annual leave.
Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, catering, events and tourism, particularly for chefs with banquet, Chinese, international or luxury-hotel experience. Although commonly described as an island city, Hong Kong includes Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, connected by efficient rail, buses, ferries and roads. The culture blends Cantonese traditions, international influences and a fast-paced professional lifestyle. Rent can be high, especially near Central and major business districts, so many employees choose housing in Kowloon or the New Territories. Food, shopping, hiking, beaches and nightlife are easily accessible, while work schedules in hospitality may include late shifts and holidays. Foreign professionals usually need an approved employment visa before starting work; the employer normally sponsors the application and must demonstrate a genuine job offer and suitable qualifications. Applicants should confirm visa, accommodation, medical and tax arrangements with Shangri-La before relocating.
