Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in luxury hotels, property management, facilities engineering, finance, technology, aviation and international business. Life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, extensive dining, shopping, hiking trails and beaches, although housing is expensive and living space can be limited. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences; Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in business and hospitality. Overseas professionals normally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer, generally through the General Employment Policy, with approval depending on qualifications, experience, salary and the availability of a genuine job offer. Dependants may usually apply for dependant visas. Before relocating, candidates should confirm housing arrangements, medical coverage, tax obligations and whether qualifications require local recognition. Hong Kong’s subtropical climate means hot, humid summers and milder winters, with occasional typhoons.
