Working in United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the widest range of luxury-hotel and culinary opportunities. Pastry professionals can find work in international resorts, restaurants, bakeries, airline catering and large event operations. The culture blends Emirati traditions with a highly international population; modest dress and respect for local customs are important, particularly during Ramadan. Lifestyle options include beaches, shopping, desert activities, dining and major cultural attractions, although summer temperatures are extremely high. Employees normally need an employer-sponsored residence visa and work permit before starting employment. Companies often arrange medical testing, Emirates ID processing and flights. Relocation packages may include staff accommodation, transport, meals and health insurance. Living costs vary greatly, with Dubai generally more expensive than Abu Dhabi or the northern emirates.
