Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers opportunities in technology, shared services, consulting, software development, testing, finance, engineering and digital operations, especially around Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor and Cyberjaya. Penang is known for its technology and electronics sector, while Langkawi and other islands are more focused on tourism and hospitality. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences reflected in food, festivals and daily life. Living costs are generally moderate, public transport is strongest in major cities, and English is widely used in professional settings. Foreign employees normally need employer-sponsored authorization, such as an Employment Pass; requirements depend on salary, qualifications and role. Candidates should secure an offer before relocating, confirm sponsorship, arrange accommodation and obtain health coverage. Malaysia has a warm tropical climate, so newcomers should expect humidity, heavy rain and year-round warm weather.
