Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel and manufacturing, information technology, finance, tourism, logistics, engineering, healthcare and business services. Colombo is the main commercial centre and provides the broadest range of professional roles, while regional cities offer lower living costs and a slower pace of life. The island is known for warm hospitality, diverse ethnic and religious traditions, festivals, beaches, mountains, wildlife and excellent food. Lifestyle costs vary, with housing and international-school fees highest in Colombo. Foreign nationals normally require an appropriate employment or residence visa sponsored or supported by the employer; working without authorisation is not permitted. Relocating employees should confirm visa eligibility, tax obligations, healthcare coverage, accommodation and family permissions before travel. English is widely used in business, while Sinhala and Tamil are the main local languages. Traffic, humidity and occasional economic or political disruption should also be considered.
