Working in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel manufacturing, information technology, tourism, finance, logistics, engineering, healthcare, education, and business services. Colombo and nearby areas have the widest range of professional roles, while industrial zones provide jobs in manufacturing and supply chain operations. The culture combines South Asian traditions with influences from Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity. English is widely used in business, although Sinhala and Tamil are the main local languages. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in many international business centers, but housing in Colombo can be relatively expensive. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate employment or residence visa arranged with employer support; tourists cannot legally work. Relocating employees should confirm work authorization, accommodation, healthcare, transport, and tax requirements before moving. Sri Lanka also offers beaches, mountains, historic cities, wildlife, and a warm tropical climate.
