Working in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka offers employment opportunities in apparel manufacturing, information technology, tourism, finance, logistics, engineering, healthcare and business services. Colombo and nearby areas provide the broadest professional market, while industrial zones and manufacturing sites operate in several regions. The culture combines Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim and other traditions, with strong family ties, hospitality, religious diversity and nationally observed holidays. Living costs are generally lower than in many international business hubs, though Colombo housing and imported goods can be expensive. The island offers beaches, mountains, wildlife, historical cities and convenient domestic travel. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate employment visa or residence authorization arranged with employer support; tourist status does not permit regular employment. Relocating employees should confirm sponsorship, qualifications, taxes, healthcare, accommodation and local transport before accepting an offer.
