Working in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel and textiles, manufacturing, IT, tourism, logistics, finance, engineering, and shared services. Colombo is the main commercial center, while cities such as Katunayake, Biyagama, Kandy, and Galle also provide employment options. The island has a warm tropical climate, diverse food, strong family and community traditions, and a generally relaxed lifestyle. English is widely used in business, while Sinhala and Tamil are the main local languages. Living costs are moderate compared with many international locations, although Colombo housing can be expensive. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored employment visa or residence permission before working; tourist visas do not permit employment. Applicants should confirm sponsorship, medical, tax, accommodation, and relocation arrangements directly with the employer and Sri Lankan authorities before moving.
