Working in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel manufacturing, textiles, engineering, IT, finance, tourism, logistics, and shared services. The country has a warm tropical climate, diverse communities, strong family traditions, and cultural influences from Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, and Christian heritage. Colombo is the main commercial centre and provides the widest range of professional jobs, housing, transport, hospitals, and international schools. Living costs are generally lower than in many major global cities, although imported goods and central Colombo accommodation can be expensive. English is widely used in business, while Sinhala and Tamil are the main local languages. Foreign employees normally need an employment-sponsored residence or work authorization arranged with the relevant Sri Lankan authorities before working. Relocating candidates should confirm visa, tax, accommodation, healthcare, and dependent arrangements with MAS and the Sri Lankan mission in their country.
