Sri Lanka offers employment opportunities in apparel and manufacturing, information technology, finance, tourism, logistics, engineering and shared services. Colombo and nearby areas have the widest range of professional jobs, while industrial zones and regional cities provide opportunities in factories and operations. The culture is diverse and welcoming, shaped by Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim and other communities, with English commonly used in business. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in many international cities, although Colombo housing can be comparatively expensive. The island offers beaches, mountains, wildlife, historic cities and convenient domestic travel. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate employment visa or residence approval arranged with employer support; tourist visas do not permit employment. Relocating employees should confirm sponsorship, tax, healthcare, housing and work-permit requirements before accepting an offer.
