The country has a warm tropical climate, diverse communities, strong family traditions, and a culture shaped by Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim, and colonial influences. Colombo is the main commercial centre and provides the widest range of jobs, housing, transport, restaurants, and international services, while other regions offer a quieter and lower-cost lifestyle. Living expenses are generally moderate, although Colombo accommodation can be comparatively expensive. Foreign employees normally require an appropriate employment or residence visa arranged with employer support before working legally. Relocating candidates should confirm contract terms, medical requirements, taxation, accommodation, and dependent arrangements.
