Sri Lanka offers employment opportunities in apparel manufacturing, tourism, information technology, finance, logistics, engineering, healthcare and business services. Colombo and nearby urban areas have the broadest professional job market, while industrial zones and tourist regions offer additional opportunities. The country has a warm climate, affordable living costs compared with many international destinations, diverse food and vibrant cultural traditions influenced by Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam and Christianity. Daily life can be relaxed, although traffic and public transport may be challenging in Colombo. Foreign nationals normally require an appropriate employment or residence visa, sponsored and supported by the employer; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Relocating employees should arrange an employment contract, passport validity, medical or background documentation and accommodation before arrival. English is widely used in business, while Sinhala and Tamil are the main local languages.
