Shangri-La Group is a major luxury hospitality company headquartered in Hong Kong, operating hotels, resorts and related businesses across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international markets. Its portfolio includes Shangri-La, Kerry Hotels, JEN by Shangri-La and Traders brands. The group is known for personalised service, Asian-inspired hospitality and a strong focus on guest experience. In Malaysia, Shangri-La operates prominent city hotels and resorts, including properties in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Sabah. The company also promotes responsible business through community partnerships, environmental conservation, employee volunteering and social sustainability programmes. Working for Shangri-La can provide exposure to international hospitality standards, multicultural teams and corporate initiatives that support local communities and more sustainable hotel operations.
Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hospitality, tourism, sustainability, retail, technology and education, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. Island destinations such as Langkawi and Penang combine resort employment with a relaxed coastal lifestyle, while Kuala Lumpur provides broader corporate career options. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business and tourism. Living costs vary: island locations may be seasonal and more expensive in popular areas, while local food and transport remain affordable. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, arranged before starting work; requirements depend on salary, qualifications and contract length. Relocation planning should include accommodation, medical insurance, banking, tax registration and transport. Malaysia is warm year-round, with monsoon patterns differing between the west and east coasts.
