Working in Indonesia

Indonesia offers diverse opportunities in hospitality, events, tourism, sales and business development, particularly in Jakarta, Bali, Surabaya, Batam and major resort areas. Bali is popular with international workers because of its beaches, established expatriate community and active lifestyle, while Jakarta provides stronger corporate and MICE opportunities. Local culture values courtesy, relationships, family and religious traditions; modest dress and respect for customs are important. Living costs vary considerably, with Bali resort areas and central Jakarta often being more expensive. Employees should expect warm weather, busy traffic in major cities and a relaxed social lifestyle outside work. Foreign nationals normally need employer sponsorship and an appropriate work permit and stay visa before starting employment. Employers commonly assist with immigration paperwork, but candidates should confirm tax, housing, insurance and relocation support directly with Shangri-La.
