Working in Indonesia

Indonesia offers hospitality opportunities across major destinations such as Bali, Java, Lombok, Batam, and the Riau Islands. Bali is the most established tourism market, with strong demand in hotels, resorts, restaurants, finance, wellness, and guest services. Jakarta provides more corporate and luxury-city roles, while Lombok and other islands offer resort careers and a slower lifestyle. Indonesian culture values politeness, community, respect for elders, and religious diversity. Living costs vary considerably; Bali’s popular areas can be expensive, while smaller cities are more affordable. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship, an approved work permit, and the appropriate limited-stay visa or KITAS before starting work. The employer typically coordinates immigration and documentation. Candidates should confirm salary, accommodation, meals, transport, insurance, tax treatment, and flight arrangements before relocating. Learning basic Indonesian is useful, and employees should respect local customs, dress expectations, and religious practices.
