Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotel engineering, facilities management, resorts, property development and tourism, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. For island living, Langkawi is relaxed and resort-focused, Penang combines heritage, food and urban convenience, while islands around Sabah offer marine tourism and a quieter lifestyle. Malaysian culture is diverse, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous traditions, with English commonly used in hospitality workplaces. Living costs vary; island housing and imported goods can be more expensive than on the mainland. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with approval handled before starting work; requirements depend on nationality, salary and role. Applicants should confirm current immigration rules, accommodation, transport, healthcare and tax arrangements with the employer before relocating.
