The Assistant Director of Marketing Communications or Marketing Communications Manager leads the hotel’s communications, public relations, media relations, content, digital marketing and brand activities. Requirements typically include a degree or diploma in marketing, communications, public relations or hospitality, together with several years of experience in hotel or luxury-brand marketing. Strong writing, editing, presentation and communication skills are essential, as well as experience with social media, press engagement, campaign planning and marketing budgets. The candidate is expected to protect the Shangri-La brand, build positive media and community relationships, support revenue-generating campaigns and work closely with sales, events, food and beverage and senior management teams. Fluency in English is normally required; Indonesian language skills and local market knowledge are valuable.
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is a Hong Kong-founded luxury hospitality group operating hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and other international markets. The brand is known for warm Asian hospitality, attentive service, high-quality accommodation and destination-focused guest experiences. Its properties commonly include restaurants, meeting and event facilities, wellness services and leisure amenities. Shangri-La places strong emphasis on service culture, employee development, sustainability and creating memorable experiences for guests. In Indonesia, the group has operated prominent city and resort properties, serving business travellers, leisure guests, weddings, conferences and international events. Marketing communications roles support the hotel’s reputation and commercial performance through media relations, storytelling, campaigns, digital channels, partnerships and community engagement.
Indonesia offers diverse hospitality opportunities across Java, Bali, Lombok, Batam and the islands of eastern Indonesia. Bali is the most established international tourism market, with strong demand for hotel marketing, events, food and beverage, wellness and resort operations. Jakarta provides corporate, luxury hotel and conference opportunities, while Lombok and destinations such as Labuan Bajo offer growing resort careers. Indonesian workplaces are generally relationship-oriented, respectful of hierarchy and culturally diverse; English is common in international hotels, although Bahasa Indonesia is useful for daily life and local partnerships. Lifestyle varies from busy metropolitan living to relaxed beach communities, with generally affordable food and transport outside premium tourist areas. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship and an appropriate work permit and KITAS before starting work. Candidates should confirm accommodation, insurance, relocation support, tax and contract terms before accepting an offer.
