Indonesia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, finance, diving, wellness and events, particularly in Bali, Java, Lombok and the Riau Islands. Bali is the most internationally connected island, with a strong expatriate community, active hospitality sector and lifestyle built around beaches, temples, cafés and outdoor activities. Local culture values community, respect, religious observance and appropriate dress, especially near temples and during ceremonies. Living costs vary: tourist areas can be expensive, while local neighbourhoods are more affordable. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship and the appropriate work and stay permits; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Employers generally guide candidates through immigration, medical checks and registration. Before relocating, confirm salary, accommodation, service charge, insurance, tax treatment, contract length and transport arrangements, and allow time to adjust to traffic, humidity and regional customs.
