The Public Area Attendant keeps hotel lobbies, corridors, elevators, restrooms, entrances and other shared areas clean, presentable and safe. Typical duties include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, replenishing supplies, removing waste, reporting maintenance issues and responding courteously to guest requests. Candidates should be physically fit, detail-oriented, reliable and comfortable standing or walking for long periods. Previous hotel or cleaning experience is advantageous, while a positive attitude, personal grooming and strong teamwork are expected. The role may require rotating shifts, weekends and public holidays. Basic Cantonese or English communication is useful, and candidates must follow Shangri-La's hygiene, safety and service standards.
Shangri-La is a luxury hospitality group with roots in Hong Kong and hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international destinations. The company is known for warm Asian hospitality, refined accommodation, restaurants, wellness facilities and attentive personal service. Its Hong Kong properties serve business travellers, families, event guests and local residents, with large teams covering guest services, housekeeping, food and beverage, engineering and administration. Shangri-La generally emphasizes professionalism, grooming, teamwork, guest satisfaction and staff development. Benefits and exact employment terms vary by property and position, but hotel roles may include meals, uniforms, training, medical coverage, staff rates and opportunities for internal advancement.
Hong Kong offers extensive opportunities in hotels, restaurants, retail, finance, technology, healthcare and professional services. Hospitality jobs are concentrated on Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, Lantau and the New Territories. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences; English is widely used in business, while Cantonese is valuable for customer-facing work. Life is fast-paced, highly connected and convenient, with excellent public transport, compact urban districts, beaches, hiking trails and diverse food. Rents can be high, so budgeting and choosing accommodation near an MTR line are important. Foreign workers generally need an approved job offer and employment visa before starting work; employers usually support the application. Dependants may qualify for visas under relevant schemes. New arrivals should arrange housing, a bank account, insurance and an identity card after arrival.
