Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a major international business hub with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, digital marketing, finance, retail, technology and professional services. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences, and English is widely used in business, although Cantonese or Mandarin can improve daily communication. Life is fast-paced, highly connected and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, nightlife, hiking and nearby beaches. Housing is expensive, particularly in central districts, so many newcomers compare locations such as Kowloon, Hong Kong Island and the New Territories. Overseas employees generally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer, with approval based on qualifications, a genuine job offer and market-level compensation. Dependants may usually apply for dependant visas. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, insurance, banking and tax registration, and confirm relocation support, visa responsibility and benefits with Shangri-La before accepting an offer.
