Working in Malaysia

Penang is a Malaysian island and mainland state destination known for George Town's UNESCO-listed heritage, diverse food culture, beaches and relaxed coastal lifestyle. Hospitality, tourism, events, property, education, healthcare and digital services provide regular employment opportunities, particularly around George Town and Batu Ferringhi. Local culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian and colonial influences, with festivals, temples, mosques, markets and excellent street food. Living costs are generally lower than Kuala Lumpur, although beachfront areas can be more expensive. Public buses, e-hailing services and private vehicles are the main transport options. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the company must meet Malaysian immigration requirements before work begins. Candidates should confirm visa sponsorship, accommodation, insurance, tax, relocation support and contract terms directly with Shangri-La. Penang is well connected by air and bridge links to mainland Malaysia.
